Rehearsal Notes February 19th, 2025
Happy Family Day Choral Evolutioneers!
We accomplished so much at our last rehearsal! Thank you for being present, focused and keeping the chatter to a minimum. It really helps us keep the rehearsal moving.
Keep track of the tunes we’ve rehearsed, make sure you keep running them regularly, so we don’t lose all the work we have done. As always, I encourage you to try to sing your parts out loud regularly, in as big a room as you can find. Altos and Basses need to sing up to a high D multiple times a day. Sopranos and Tenors need a G at the top of the staff. Don’t strain, but do let go, use your breath to make the tone. Use a round OO or OH vowel if things get tight. If the registers crack let them, it’s far better than straining and the muscular confusion is good for the voice.
When it comes to singing, always be a beginner, it's the best practice. Go slow, pay attention, check your pitch constantly, pay attention to every breath, don't hold your breath, sigh, check for jaw and tongue tension, take nothing for granted.
We will work on our music in the following order this week:
Vincent
- Bar 44 to the end.
Thinking out loud
- We worked backwards from the end to bar 25.
- When you practice this one, remember the articulation we agreed on as it's different from your recordings in spots.
- We will finish this tune this week working backwards from bar 25
Eternal flame
- We worked backwards from letter F to the end.
- We’ll finish this tune this week, working backwards from E.
Paint it Black
- We'll start at the end and work our way forward.
Hair
We can run this at the end of rehearsals to send us home with Tooby, Ooby Walla in our hearts
I will see you all Wednesday, February 19th at Sooke EMCS Band Room 7:00pm - 9:15pm
See you then!

Reminders
Memories
We covered the whole tune. Please keep it rehearsed by running it regularly.
Texas Hold em’
We did E to the end. All the words need to flow effortlessly, work on them till they are pretty much memorized. It would be great if we could add some movement to this one. This tune is ready to go 😊
· Be respectful of the process and your fellow singers by maintaining silence during rehearsals, put up your hand if you have a question and I will do my best to call on you.
· Bring your music, a pencil and your water bottle to each rehearsal. Mark your parts lightly in pencil only.
· Come prepared to all rehearsals and commit to singing all the concerts. We count on you being there for us every week and we miss you when you are away.
· Learn your music, practice at home, use the practice tracks, attend sectionals.
· Don’t be selective: you have to learn, practice and commit to every tune even if they aren’t your favourite. We all have to sing the whole show.
