André's Rehearsal Notes for Oktober 8th, 2025
Hello Choral Evolutioneers!
We accomplished so much at our last rehearsal! Thank you for being present, focused and keeping the chatter to a minimum. It really helps us keep the rehearsal moving.
Please keep rehearsing and reviewing the pieces we have made it through so far. More and more we will enjoy working on them and thinking ahead to our performances in December. Each of these arrangements is a blueprint that we need to execute accurately, all together, for full effect. The arrangers have done most of the work for us. We will circle back beginning this week to rehearse these pieces, clear up the details and bring them to life. There will be more and more exciting moments where the sound and shape of the piece becomes clear.
Here are the pieces we have rehearsed so far:
O Canada!
Locus Iste – I’m using this as a tuning, blend and dynamics exercise. Plus it’s very beautiful!! Bruckner: "Locus iste" (Stanford Chamber Chorale) for some inspiration
Solstice Carol – Please keep working at those rhythms and entrances. Antiphony sings "Solstice Carol"
All the Little Rivers – Keep this fresh by singing it daily. You can’t be reading all those words in a concert; you will have to know them by heart.
Away from the roll of the Sea – Good practice for singing long lyrical lines, lovely tones A fine performance by an Australian choir! Away from the Roll of the Sea - Allister MacGillivray, arr. Diane Loomer | Concordis Chamber Choir
Voices Arising – Plenty to work on here: divisi, entrances, harmonies
The Field Behind the Plow – Every line has different rhythms, pickups you need to know. Get to know the original material: The Field Behind the Plow
This week we will introduce:
Sing the Winter Away – Finally!! Let’s make it at least to letter C
Echoes of Summer – Also called Indian Summer
Make and Break Harbour – Let’s see how far we get 😊
I will see you all Wednesday, Oktober 8th at the Westshore Masonic Centre in Langford at 7 pm.
