André Clouthier
André Clouthier has worked as a professional singer, music director and voice teacher for most of his life. Growing up he sang in choirs and folk groups, studied trumpet and guitar. André played trumpet with the CAF Band and studied voice at the Conservatoire de Québec. He spent two very productive summers studying and performing in the Music Theatre program at the Banff School of Fine Arts. Soon after, André joined the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble and began a successful performing career singing tenor roles in Carmen, Fidelio, Mozart’s Magic Flute, and Madame Butterfly with Yokohama City Opera in Japan. His many concert credits include performances of Handel’s Messiah, Judas Maccabeus, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and the Verdi Requiem at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
André has always had a passion for passing on the techniques he’s absorbed over years of study and performance. He spent 6 years teaching the finest students at Canada’s premiere Music Theatre program Sheridan University, Ontario. When he arrived in Victoria, he taught at the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Oak Bay. Many of his students have gone on to successful performing and teaching careers. (including Gordon Miller!)
André’s passion for music and varied skills have led him to many opportunities as Music Director. He was Artistic Director of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society in Waterloo Ont. and has worked as Music Director for various Churches. He was the founding President of Debut Opera Society in Calgary. For many years he fronted Stealing Dan, a brilliant 14 piece cover band in Waterloo Ont. He loves to play Lightfoot and Neil Young on the guitar, and has been in the pit for many too many musicals and shows. André enjoyed singing with Choral Evolution last year under Gordon’s leadership and loved the can-do spirit and camaraderie of the choir .He is looking forward to leading the choir’s continuing growth and contributing to Vancouver Island's vibrant art community.
Choral Evolution is excited to launch our new concert season under André's direction!
