Hey, everyone. I hope you are enjoying that last few days without rain...We know it is coming, and it does affect some people's moods, so please take care of your self. Autumn brings its own joys, with the colours and crispness to the air. Get outside and enjoy a walk through the turning leaves, "enjoy" raking those same leaves when they fall in our yard, and breathe in that good crisp fresh air. And sing while you do it...some of these songs are earworms for sure. If you download to your phone (instructions on the drive) you can take the music with you and sing along. And focus on breath control while you are raking!
Our rehearsals are showing that we are learning our music and rehearsing at home, just as we hoped everyone would. Andre praised the lack of chatter, and that is great, but we were still talking out of turn....I am guilty as well. Our seating plan changed our neighbors, and that can sometime increase our speaking. Try to remember that we can't hear Andre when we are speaking, and what he is saying usually applies to all sections. Thank you for your concerted effort to reduce our chatter.
The new seating plan is in effect, so if you don't remember where you are to be, come see Sherry. If there are problems with where you are seated, please share so we can make it work for everyone. The idea is to make us in columns so that the stronger/more sure voices project over those in front to help lead the others in the section. This doesn't diminish the overall effect of everyone, it just helps when someone who is sure of the notes is behind you. Proven choral structure. Anyway, I've shared this so everyone will have an idea as to why we have positioned people as we have. This doesn't always apply, mind you, as physical capabilities also come into play.
Diane and I heard back from the majority that we would like to have a social event once in the middle of our session, and then again with the end of our session. It gives us a chance to get to know people from other sections. Suggestions? Please share with Diane and Kristin who are overseeing this aspect. On that same note, we will introduce the board on Wednesday! Sorry for the delay.
A message has been sent out to our fan club to "save the dates" for our show. You can also start sharing with your people when the show will be; let's pack the house in Sooke and Langford! We have a venues to do it, so lets make it happen.
Keep up the great work of maintaining your learning, and I will see you Wednesday in Langford.
Sherry
